Following a year of research and preparation to develop the organization, the BC Health Authority Shared Services Organization (SSO) was formally launched in February 2009, the SSO was established with the full support of Government and all six health authorities.

As our shared services organization continues to grow and mature, it is necessary to ensure the appropriate systems and supports are in place to enable effective operations of a substantial business entity. Rather than establish duplicate infrastructure and systems when they already exist in the system, in March 2010 the decision was made to move SSO operations into the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). Services to BC’s health authorities are now provided by a new division of PHSA called Health Shared Services BC (HSSBC).
